George Ansong: Liberty Captain Talks About Their New Found Energy

Liberty Professionals FC look a revived side following a renewed energy in their last three matches of the 2020/21 Ghana premier league season.

The Dansoman based club produced patchy performances in the start of the season which saw them languish bottom of the 18-club league.

The Scientific Soccer Lads picked just three points from a possible nine in their three opening league games.

Three 1-1 draws against Bechem United, Elmina Sharks and Eleven Wonders pegged them back in the start of the season under coach, David Ocloo who has since been fired by the club.

The club is however undergoing a renaissance under a new look technical team of FIFA U-20 World Cup winning coach, Sellas Tetteh and former King Faisal coach, Andy Sinason.

Africa-Foot.com’s Adamu Muftawu caught up with the club’s captain, George William Ansong on what has changed in the last three games.

“Hard work and determination has given Liberty the new energy in the second round.

“It’s been a change of players and change of technical team.

“So I think with the chemistry and also with them [coaches] imparting in you new energy and bringing in new stuff has really helped.

“We were under pressure because we were losing and the position we were wasn’t really good.

“But they [coaches]coming in really made us understand football is not played under pressure.

“They are really guiding us and protecting us and also leading us.

“For me I will say it’s grace and also hardwork and determination.” George Ansong told Adamu Muftawu.

Liberty Professionals have won their las three matches against no mean sides.

They thumped Elmina Sharks 4-0 at their newly adopted Sogakope home on match day 19.

They picked all three points away to struggling Eleven Wonders in Techiman before putting the brakes on Berekum Chelsea in a 2-0 home win in matches day 20 and 21 respectively.

Their last gasp performance has pushed them out of the relegation zone into 14th with 24 points from 21 games.

They will next face Great Olympics on match day 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday April, 2.
