The Ghana Athletics Association on Saturday, 8th May, 2021 held it’s 2nd Circuit championship at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi.
The event which attracted over 100 athletes was to unearth and scouts for talents ahead of the upcoming African Championships in Nigeria later in the year and other subsequent international competitions.
The athletes participated in various track and field events.
The Sports Director of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi was the special guest of honour including other dignitaries.
The CEO of the Ghana Athletics Association, Bawa Fuseini spoke after the event in Kumasi.
“In all the competition was very good, it’s only that we had to skip the 200m because of the time.
“Because of the athletes running the 200m are running the 100m and the 400m and that’s why we skipped the 200m.
“The performance by the athletes here was encouraging but if I say it is an Olympic standard, I might be exaggerating.
“So I’m praying hard that if we go to Kaduna for the West African Championship, they will improve upon their times, distance and height.
“After Kaduna we will go to another Grand Prix in Lagos on 31st of this month and I’m hoping that at that championship they will be able to perform very well.
“So that when we get to the Africa Championship in Algiers, Algeria, they will have Olympic qualification there.
“That is the last place for Olympic qualifiers.” Bawa Fuseini told Nicholas Akosah of Africa-Foot.com.
