Asante Kotoko remained top of the 2020/21 Ghana premier league table despite drawing 1-1 in their week 25 game against Liberty Professionals in Sogakope on Sunday.
Kotoko could not hold the Scientific Soccer Lads in the first half, letting in the opener on the 36th minute for Liberty.
Evans Owusu’s long range shot could not be dealt with by goalkeeper Razak Abalora who pushed the ball into his own net.
The Porcupine Warriors leveled on the 83rd minute after central defender, Abdul Ganiu out jumped the Liberty back line to head home the equalizer.
The 1-1 draw notwithstanding keeps the record league holders top of the league table with 45 points from 25 matches.
Sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak follow closely with 43 points.
Kotoko defender, Abdul Ganiu admits maintaining the top spot is not easy.
“Maintaining the top [first position] is hard.
“We will just take game after game and Insha Allah we will get there.” Abdul Ganiu said.
Ganiu has been instrumental for the Porcupine Warriors with his performance earning him a Black Stars call up in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé.
