Nobody assigned me to win the league title – Evans Adotey

Head coach of Karela United FC, Evans Adotey says he was not given the target of winning the Ghana Premier League title by his employers.

According to the experienced trainer, he was roped in to save the Anyinase based club in the truncated 2019/20 league season.

Adotey started on a clean slate in the 2020/21 Ghana league season following the cancellation of the previous term.

The former AshantiGold coach reveals that he was told to keep the club in either top four or six at the end of the 2020/21 league season.

“Coach Adotey, joining Karela, I was asked to help escape relegation, that was my target [given to me] to bring Karela out of relegation.

“And thank God the League was truncated, we started a new season.

“What was the target, I asked, they told me we want remain among the top six or top four.

“Nobody assigned me to go for the league title, I opted for myself that no, I also want a name together with boys we will fight fight until we get to the ultimate.

“So nobody has assigned me to win the league.” Evans Adotey told Adamu Muftawu.

Evans Adotey has a rich experience on the local scene having coached top domestic clubs, AshantiGold SC, Berekum Chelsea and Medeama SC.

Karela have kept their momentum in the ongoing season having claimed third spot on the league log with 41 points from 25 matches.

Karela have picked nine points from a possible 15 in their last five games.

Two wins against Bechem United and Eleven Wonders with three draws against Hearts of Oak, King Faisal and Elmina Sharks.

Their next game is against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park for week 26 on Sunday, May 23.
