Head coach of Legon Cities FC, Bashir Hayford says they were aware of AshantiGold’s threat in their week 27 fixture.
Hayford led Cities to beat his former side at the Len Clay Stadium 1-0 to increase their survival chances.
The Royals went into the game having recorded a 2-0 win in match day 26 against Aduana Stars with The Miners losing 1-0 to Medeama in Tarkwa.
Hayford talks about better preparation leading to their victory.
“It wasn’t an easy match because we knew that AshantiGold went to Tarkwa, they did very well but they came back empty handed.
“So we knew they were going to fight desperately so we also prepared for that.
“And when we came it looks as if they dominated the midfield so strategically we wanted to stay back and catch them on the break.
“If you don’t want them to score again the you have to defend or protect your goal.
“We locked back there and we get the ball and catch them on the break.
“Although it was a very tough match, we are happy we collected the maximum three points.” Bashir Hayford said.
Legon Cities have gone a bit farther from the drop zone after pushing themselves up with wins against Aduana Stars, Liberty Professionals and Ebusua Dwarfs.
They lie 9th with 35 points from 27 matches.
They will next play Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, June 7 for match day 28 at 6:00pm.
