Ex-Ghana Youth international, Bright Addae has recounted what happened to his mother after he wasted his penalty at the 2009 U-20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt.
Ghana won the youth tournament for the first time in the nation and Africa’s history after beating Brazil 4-3 on penalty in the finals.
Brazil wasted three kicks with Ghana squandering two after six takes by the two countries.
Bright Addae, who wasted Ghana’s fourth kick has recounted to Accra based Hot fm, what saved his mother from the anger of some football fans.
” I will say my penalty really hurt Ghanaians more than that of Asamoah Gyan.
“Just after I missed the kick, I said ewurade Ghana fuor akumi [God, Ghanaians have killed me].
“People went to my mum with Cutlasses and other dangerous weapons but fortunately Agyemang Badu’s goal saved my mum, it would have been a sad day.” He told Accra based Hot fm.
Bright Addae, then playing for the defunct WA All Stars now Legon Cities FC, heaved a sigh of relief when Agyemang Badu netted the winner for Ghana.
Addae, 28 , now plies his trade in Romania for Hermannstadt. He had a five year stint with ASCOLI Calcio where he became the first Ghanaian to captain the side.
He last played for Juve Stabia of Italy prior to joining Hermannstadt.
