Accra Hearts of Oak completed a domestic double for the first time in 21 years after an overstretched penalty shootouts victory over AshantiGold in the MTN FA Cup finals.
The final clash saw a barren 90 minutes showdown at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 8 with the extra time finishing goalless.
AshantiGold wasted four out of 11 kicks with Hearts of Oak squandering three to claim their record 11th FA Cup trophies.
The Phobians had already crowned the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League with 61 points to win the club’s first and 21 title in 11 years.
Hearts of Oak will play in the 2021/22 CAF Champions of which they won in the year 2000.
Head coach of the millennium champions, Samuel Boadu has received rave reviews from his fellow coach and former Asante Kotoko player and coach, Maxwell Konadu.
The current Legon Cities FC coach tweeted.
Hearts of Oak are one time holders of the CAF Super Cup after beating Egypt club, Zamalek 2-0 at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium in 2001 as well as the CAF Confederation Cup glory in 2004 where they defeated rivals, Asante Kotoko 8-7 on penalty shootouts following a 2-2 draw over two legs.
