Ghana’s Women Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies wrote their name in gold after winning the maiden edition of WAFU ZONE B Women’s Champions League qualifiers last Thursday.
The ladies from the Western Region of Ghana, defied a jerky start to their qualifying campaign to claim the title at the Stade Champroux in Ivory Coast.
Hasaacas Ladies stumbled 2-0 in their opener to Nigeria club, Rivers Angels but returned stronger to claim to wins in a row to set up a final against their nemesis, River Angels.
Wins over AS Police from Niger and Union Sportive des Forces Armees from Burkina Faso sent Hasaacas Ladies into the finals.
A spirited performance by coach Yusif Basigi’s side produced a 3-1 finish to win the title and a place in next year’s maiden CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
Head coach of the club, Yusif Basigi opens up on the energy that led to their success at the qualifiers.
“It was a very difficult journey but once we were determined, it brought the result we see now.
“Because whatever you do, if you don’t add passion, you will soon give up.
“We knew the battle would be difficult but we would not give up [anyway], we would fight to the end.
“In our first game we lost 2-0 to Rivers Angel of Nigeria and many gave up on us.
“But because of the determination, we did not give up and that led to our triumph.” Yusif Basigi said.
Hasaacas Ladies have now won a treble; the Ghana Women’s Premier League, the FA Cup and now the WAFU ZONE B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
