Ghana 1-0 Ethiopia: We could have scored more but our final passes were bad – Dede Ayew

Ghana’s recent poor goal scoring rate came to the fore once again when they failed to go past Ethiopia more than once.

The Black Stars managed to beat Ethiopia 1-0 in the opening Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday.

Midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso’s 40-yard strike was spilled by Teklemariam Shanko in post for Ethiopia for Ghana’s only goal and first three points.

Captain Andre Ayew admits they could have scored more if they strung their passes well.

The Black Stars

“I think we did what we had to do, was to take the three points. It wasn’t an easy game.

“But on the pitch we were never worried because it’s true they were possessing the ball but they were possessing the ball far away from our pole I think [Richard] Ofori didn’t have a save to make or maybe one.

“So we were calm, we were tactically very very good, we did what we had to do.

“We could have scored a bit more if our final passes were a bit better but it’s what we are working on.

“If you look at the other countries, we are on top and they will be behind us.

“I’m very happy, very glad and now we have to really prepare because the big and the tough game is coming on Monday [against South Africa].” André Ayew said.

The Black Stars are top of Group C with three points after South Africa and Zimbabwe drew goalless in their opening game.

Ghana are away in South Africa against the Bafana Bafana for the second Group C game.
