Experienced Ghana forward, Gladson Awako has sent a subtle attack on Ghanaian sports journalists over their incessant promotion of foreign based stars at the expense of the local players and the Ghana league.
Awako, whose transfer to the 2020/21 Ghana Champions, Hearts of Oak has been embroiled in controversy, was the brightest spot for former club, Great Olympics last season.
His performance caught the eyes of Hearts of Oak who snapped him up to strengthen their squad for their 2021/22 CAF Champions League campaign.
He however missed the Phobians’ 2-0 opening victory in the one legged preliminary game against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Reports are that, he will return for the second preliminary CAF Champions League first leg clash against Morocco club, Wydad Athletic Club this month at the Accra Sports Stadium before the return fixture in Morocco in a week.
Awako , 30 , believes with the performance of players in last season’s league, it is time Ghanaian sports journalist spend some moments promoting local players and the local league on all platforms.
The diminutive forward tweeted.
Awako has a rich football experience both domestically and abroad having played for Hearts of Lions in Ghana before trials at Spanish Segunda B side Recreativo Huelva.
He played for former Ghana Premier League winners, Berekum Chelsea and later switched to Congolese giants, TP Mazembe in 2013. He was sent on loan to fellow Congo club, Don Bosco for more playing time before returning after his loan spell.
He left TP Mazembe in 2017 and had a brief stint with USL club, Phoenix Risings in 2018.
He returned to Ghana after his short spell with Phoenix Risings to sign for Accra Great Olympics where he shone brightly in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League before a move to Hearts of Oak.
