Liberty Professionals will begin life in Division One with the official commencement of training ahead of the 2021/22 league season.
The Scientific Soccer Lads were relegated to Ghana’s second tier football after 22-years in the top flight and will start preparing for life in demotion on Tuesday, October 5 at the Lord’s Wembley in Shukura between 6:00am to 8:00am
Liberty Professionals have produced big name players like former Black Stars captain and Africa’s all time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup, Asamoah Gyan.
The likes of ex-Inter, AC Milan and Portsmouth midfielder, Sulley Muntari, former Juventus and Inter Milan Midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoah, ex-Chelsea, AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder, Michael Essien and ex-Panathinaikos midfielder, Derek Boateng just to mention a few are from the stable of the Dansoman based club.
Playing in the Division One league will certainly be a psychological blow to the players of which the club’s central defender, Nathaniel Kwame Paul is still struggling to come to terms with after their relegation from the top flight.
“It was really tough, it was very heart breaking and we didn’t expect that to happen because we were very very determined to keep Liberty up so the feeling was very very hard and even after Sunday traveling all the way from Volta to Accra, it wasn’t an easy journey because it was all sad, it was too much for us to bear.
“The feeling was so bad that I just didn’t know how I could recover from it.” Paul Kwame told Africa-foot.com.
Liberty Professionals finished 17th in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season. They collected 40 points from 34 matches at the end of the season.
