Thomas Partey’s first Premier League goal inspires Arsenal’s thumping of Aston Villa

Black Stars deputy skipper, Thomas Partey seems to be getting the groove he once possessed at Spanish La Liga club, Atletico Madrid back but this time in the jersey of England side, Arsenal.

The 28-year-old scored his first ever Premier League goal in Arsenal’s shirt since joining them in last season.

The Krobo Odumasi native, who joined Arsenal in a long term contract at €45 million, headed home the Gunners’ opener on the 23rd minute from Emile Smith-Rowe’s corner kick at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey’s opener was a spur on for Mikel Arteta and his men who were separated by only a point with Villa going into match week 9 of the 2021/22 season.

Arsenal, who missed European qualification last season, doubled their lead through Gabon striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

A VAR inspired penalty saw Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez save Aubameyang’s spot kick but the former Borussia Dortmund forward found the second goal from Martinez’s rebound just before the break.

Back from the break, Arsenal doubled their effort with winger, Emile Smith-Rowe icing the cake for Arsenal with the third goal on the 56th minute.

Aston Villa will however not have their pride bruised as they fought to pull a goal back from the boot of substitute forward, Jacob Ramsey with eight minutes to full time.

The Gunners per the victory, go on 14 points, four above Aston Villa into 9th on the table with other games set to be cleared at the weekend.

Thomas Partey’s goal will be a further in his tea cup as the Black Stars of Ghana prepare to clear their last two Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia and South Africa.

Ghana reached the quarters in 2010 in South Africa

Ghana have a date with Ethiopia away in the penultimate qualifier on November 17 before the final game against South Africa at home a week later.

Partey was on the score sheet when Ghana defeated Zimbabwe in the double header win at the Cape Coast Stadium and the return fixture at the National Stadium in Harare.

He scored the second goal in Ghana’s 3-1 mauling of the Warriors in Cape Coast before sweeping in a sweet free kick to give Ghana the only goal and his 12th international career goal.

Ghana are second in Group G with nine points, one behind leaders, South Africa.
