Head coach of AshantiGold, Ernest Thompson has set a target of finishing in the top four in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
Thompson was appointed by the Miners in September this year in a 2-year deal after parting ways with relegated Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Thompson, who replaced French coach, Romain Folz, says finishing in the top four is the priority and winning the league title an icing on the cake.
“Last season, AshantiGold were tipped as one of the clubs to win the league title or finish in the top four but that could not happen.
“So my first and foremost target is, we should be in the top four and the icing on the cake being able to win the league, repeat what we did in the FA Cup and also represent Ghana in continental football.” Ernest Thompson told Kessben fm.

The four time Ghana champions were runners of last season’s MTN FA Cup where they lost to Ghana champions, Hearts of Oak 8-7 on penalty shootouts after the entire game and extra time ended goalless at the Accra Sports Stadium in August this year.
AshantiGold will kick off the 2021/22 league season against Eleven Wonders at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman on Sunday, October 31 at 3:00pm Ghana time.
