Obuasi AshantiGold were nearly given a bitter pill to swallow on Saturday at home to Karela United in week two of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
The visitors shocked the teeming fans present to support the “Aboa kese boys” at the Len Clay Stadium after taking the lead before the break.
Karela United midfielder, Mohammed Dafie Humid sent a sweeping low strike on the 35th minute for their opener with AshantiGold made to dig deep in search of the equalizer.
The Miners gathered themselves quickly and responded five minutes after Karela’s opener from the boot of Isaac Opoku Agyemang.
The one goal apiece for both clubs in the first half stood as the final result as they all failed to find the back of the net after full time.
AshantiGold head coach, Ernest Thompson has not lost confidence despite picking four points from a possible six in two games of the season.
“We are still confident and it is better than if we had lost [AshantiGold 1-1 Karela].
“Because immediately they scored we responded quickly and that made us to raise our game.
“But a point is better than zero so at least four points now, two games it’s not bad.
“We are building on it and I believe we are going to make amends.” Ernest Thompson said.
AshantiGold opened the 2021/22 season on a good, posting a slim 1-0 win at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman against Eleven Wonders last Sunday.
Their next game will be a week three trip to the Baba Yara Stadium Stadium against a rejuvenated King Faisal who won their opening game 1-0 against West Africa Football Academy.
