Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has backed under fire Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach, Gernot Rohr.
The German trainer has come under sharp criticism following the Super Eagles’ drab performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles gathered 13 points to top Group C and in the process progress to the final round of the qualifiers ahead of Cape Verde [11 points], Liberia [6 points] and Central Africa Republic on 4 points.

Rohr’s men have not really impressed the citizens with their performance on the field despite topping the group with many also calling for the head of the coach.
The 2019 AFCON Bronze medal winning coach has however had the support of striker, Victor Osimhen.

“What’s important is getting to the next stage of the qualifying, that’s what the target was and I’m proud we could achieve that,” Napoli striker Victor Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.
“It’s not possible for me to claim the glory for our success, it takes a team to succeed and we all make a big impact,” he added.
“Sometimes you don’t need to focus on what should’ve been, instead you need to look at what you achieve – given the fact that it’s a competitive process to reach the World Cup.”

The Super Eagles striker scored four out of the nine goals recorded by the three time Africa champions en route to qualifying for the final stage.
Gernot Rohr was tasked to qualify Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon next year which they duly represent.
His new contract has a target of sending Nigeria to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World. Nigeria will meet any of the following countries, Egypt, Ghana, DR Congo, Mali or Cameroon in the playoffs set for March, 2021 with the draw coming up on December 18.
