Four time Ghana Premier League champions, AshantiGold have come out of their shells in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
The “Aboa Kesse” Boys made a very good start to the season with an opening victory against Eleven Wonders at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman under the watchful eyes of their former player coach, Yaw Acheampong who currently handles Eleven Wonders. They beat Wonders by 1-0 at their own backyard. Then coach, Ernest Thompson led his side at home and were shocked to be held by Karela United at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi in the second week. Karela managed to draw 1-1 to take a point from the four time Ghana champions.
They were pegged back at the Baba Yara Stadium in the third week against King Faisal much to the disappointment of the club’s top hierarchy. They lost 2-0 to the “Insha Allah” Boys which eventually led to the sacking of head coach, Ernest Thompson. The club reinstated ex-Ghana international, Thomas Duah which led to their victory in week four against defending league champions, Accra Hearts of Oak at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. They beat Hearts of Oak 2-0 with goals coming from Yaw Annor and Abdul Salam which compounded the Phobians’ woes going into their CAF Confederation Cup against Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura at the Accra Sports Stadium.
AshantiGold matched into the fifth week with a morale booster from the fourth week victory against Hearts of Oak but they silenced by Premier League returnees, Real Tamale. The Pride of the.
