Head coach of King Faisal, Nurudeen Ahmed has admitted that his charges are not ripe for continental football despite halting Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten run in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
The marauding “Insha Allah” Boys put three goals past their city rivals Kotoko, who replied twice to suffer their first defeat in six games.
The Baba Yara Stadium erupted in week six when teenager, Zubairu Ibrahim shot King Faisal into the lead with just three minutes played in the first half.
The 17-year-old doubled the lead for King Faisal in the 14th minute mark to stun the home fans present to support the Porcupine Warriors.
Zubairu Ibrahim made it three for King Faisal on the 68th minute mark to complete a hat trick on the afternoon.
In between King Faisal’s three goals, the Porcupine Warriors pulled twice through Cameroon striker, Mfegue Omgba but they were not enough to save Kotoko from a 3-2 defeat.
Nurudeen Ahmed said after the game: “I told you that six points are at stake, not more than three and then we were just playing, we gave them a good fight.
“You know that is a big club and we started the match as underdogs but we did the needful even though they played better we did the needful,” Nurudeen Ahmed said.
“Being needful means that you sit back and you take your chances. The few chances that we got we utilized them and that has been the game plan throughout.” Nurudeen Ahmed added.
When asked about King Faisal’s league title ambitions, the experienced coach talked about placing in a respectable position at the end of the season as they are not ready for Africa.
“It means that we are course but it’s just too early to say anything.
“We believe that we will continue working hard at least we will also get a respectable position on the league table not necessarily to take the cup or something because we are not ready for Africa.” Nurudeen Ahmed told Eli Kondo of StarTimes.
Asante Kotoko had collected 13 points from five games – four wins and a draw prior to hosting King Faisal who gave them a reality check.
King Faisal now topple their rivals on goals difference but share 13 points apiece.
