1. David Sandan Abagna: How will RTU cope without their Bona fide midfielder?
‘I am not being recognised by Ghana football’, said Real Tamale United skipper David Abagna in an interview on Angel FM with Sadick Adams. A few days later, he was selected among the 30 man list for the Black Stars camping in Qatar ahead of January AFCON. What a week it was for him.
He has scored 8 of the 12 goals scored so far for Real Tamale United. The newly-promoted side is occupying the 5th position on the league log and is all down to Abagna’s goals. He has won 8 points from his 8 goals for Real Tamale United. They will have just 6 points without his presence. 4 goals has been scored by the entire team if you deduct his 8 from the total 12. He is simply incredible for Real Tamale United. Can they do it without their excellent midfielder?
2. Medeama faces a stern test in Aduana.
Medeama conceded a late minute goal at Sogakope and it ended their 6 games unbeaten run. Aduana on the other hand has won six straight games. That’s no mere achievement. The Ogya boys are enjoying themselves right now. They are sharing the goals; Emmanuel Gyamfi, Sam Adams, Bright Adjei, Yahaya Mohammed and Hafiz Adams. This is a hallmark of a proper team.
Asare Bediako is getting everything right.
3. Goals galore at Dawu?
The Serbian tactician will have to do without his best player (Abdul Issahaku) albeit he can count on Agyenim Boateng Mensah, Ali Huzaf, Kwaku Karikari and Samuel Boakye. They are the team with the most goals scored (19) and most conceded (17). Prudent Hearts of Oak are not scoring as much as their opponents, neither are they conceding as their opponents. 5 goals, scored, 4 conceded. Hearts lost 2-0 to Dreams last season at Dawu and will have revenge on their mind. The Phobians have won back to back for the first time this season.
4. Maxwell Konadu is on a knife-edge.
The only side with just a solitary victory thus far. The Royals are not portraying royalty at the moment and they are just a place above the bottom side Elmina Sharks.
Both teams have just amassed 7 points each and are just separated by a goals difference of -5. Maxwell Konadu is likely to be the next manager to be sacked if the results remain the same. Elmina Sharks vs Legon Cities is a relegation six-pointer and Maxwell Konadu can not lose this fixture.
5. Prosper Narteh Ogum welcomes his people.
WAFA made Prosper propelled WAFA to a 3rd place finish last season. That was awesome. Under his tutelage, Daniel Lomotey, Daniel Owusu, Augustine Boakye, Enoch Asubonteng all became exciting footballers. That’s what he can do. He is now the head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and is facing his beloved WAFA. The Sogakope side is in the relegation zone and must improve their game. Guillermo Zaragoza so far is struggling. They won in Week 9 thanks to a late goal from Sampson Agyapong against Medeama. Kotoko is 3 points behind the league leaders with a game in hand. Win against woeful WAFA will be a great Christmas present for the Fabulous fraternity.
6. Bechem is a fortress
With 4 wins from 4 games, Bechem United is very excellent at Nana Gyeabour’s Park.
Mingle Ocansey Kasim men have scored 10 goals Bec m conceded 1 at home. King Faisal has suffered just 1 defeat in 9 games and it is unbelievable. They have won against Aduana (2nd) and Kotoko (3rd). Can they conquer Bechem United (4th)?
7. Ashgold: Master of inconsistencies
Ashgold is the most inconsistent team in the league. They are very unpredictable.
Their early exit in the FA cup against Bechem United sums it up. No victory in the last 2 GPL games, they lack the belief to kill off teams. Defeat for them at Berekum Chelsea will put Thomas Duah under immense pressure. Berekum Chelsea will love to get back to winning ways at home after the 3-2 defeat against in-form Aduana.
8. Karela fans demand a high standard
Will it be the 15th straight away game spanning from Last season without a win for Karela? They are awful when playing away. Karela fans don’t entertain mediocrity. They always want to see the team performing. The Dun’s Park is Bibiani Gold Stars weapon, they intend to remain in the league with a solid performance at home. 9 points won from a total of 12 is excellent for a team enjoying their first-ever campaign at the top flight. Micheal Osei’s stars have lost their last two games and will love to bounce back to winning ways at their beloved Dun’s Park.
9. Skipper Maxwell Nii Abbey Quaye is Accra Great Olympics’ heartbeat
He has been excellent for the Dade Boys. No wonder Milo invited him. He has scored
70% of Olympics goals this season. Annor Walker will be worried about his absence.
Eleven Wonders has lost their last 3 away games and need a morale booster victory. Will they capitalise on Maxwell Nii Abbey Quaye’s absence?
10. Fantastic Four
The GPL has given Black Stars four players and their respective clubs will miss them. David Sandan Abagna (RTU), Maxwell Nii Abbey Quaye (Olympics), Abdul Fatau Issahaku (Dreams FC), Philemon Baffour (Dreams FC), Richard Attah ( Hearts of Oak).
It is such a wonderful Christmas present from Black Stars to the Ghana Premier League.
