“Don’t Blame Richard Attah Over WAFA’s Equalizer” – Samuel Boadu

Head coach of Hearts of Oak, Samuel Boadu has defended goalkeeper, Richard Attah over a mistake that allowed WAFA to equalize in their 2-1 week 19 victory on Wednesday in Accra.

Kojo Obeng Junior had shot the Phobians into the lead a few minutes into the second half but the defending champions went to sleep for the academy boys to pull level.

Youngster, Derrick Antwi Mensah capitalized on a gaping hole created by Salim Adams’ shift from the human wall to slot home a perfect free kick behind Richard Attah on the 53rd minute.

The error sent shockwaves down the spine of the club’s few fans present at the stadium but Samuel Boadu has absolved the Black Stars goalkeeper from blame.

“After the match I asked [Richard] Attah about the goal.

“He told me about Salim Adams moving away from the human which created a space for the ball to pass through.

“So i don’t blame [Richard] Attah but the players who formed the human wall.

“Even he [Salim Adams] has admitted to the mistake and so that was what happened.” Samuel Boadu said at the post match press conference.

Despite the goalkeeping hitch, Hearts of Oak went ahead to win the day with former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari scoring from the spot after Patrick Razak was fouled by WAFA goalkeeper, Kwadwo Bonsu.

The 21 time champions now share 29 points with King Faisal and Medeama in 5th spot after 19 matches into the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
