2022 FIFA WCQ: Super Eagles trio in fine form as Rangers edge out Red Star in Europa League

Nigerian trio, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey saw action for their Scottish club, Rangers in the round 16 second leg of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Forward, Aribo saw 68 minutes of action and was subsequently replaced by Scott Arfield with central defender, Leon Balogun enjoying full throttle at the Stadium Rajko Mitic.

Super Eagles left-back, Calvin Bassey played the entire game as Rangers romped to a 4-2 aggregate win despite losing 2-1 against Red Star Belgrade in the second leg.

Mirko Ivanic and Ben Nabouhane scored the two goals for Red Star with Ryan Kent pulling the equalizer in between to end the game at 2-1.

Rangers will qualify for the quarter finals of UEFA’s second tier competition. Rangers produced a 3-0 victory in their first leg at the Ibrox to make the second leg quite an easy task.

The performance of the Nigerian trio is a huge plus for coach Augustine Eguavoen whose side will face Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium for the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. All three players are part of the 25-man squad released by the technical team of the Super Eagles.
