Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum says referee Kennedy Paddi’s penalty call in their 1-0 week 24 win over Hearts of Oak was right.
Hearts midfielder, Aziz Nurudeen got in the way of Brazilian, Fabio Gama in the area with the referee sprinting to point to the spot.
Cameroon striker, Franck Mbella planted the spot kick on the blind side of Richmond Ayi for the Porcupine Warriors’ winner with just 17 minutes into first half action at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Wild debate currently surrounds the credibility of the infringement but Prosper Narteh Ogum believes the official got his decision right.
“From my technical area, there was a contact and once the player has the ball and he is in the penalty area and he is advancing towards goal, the slightest of contacts can make him imbalance and he can lose the ball.
“The player just touched him, I mean he brought him down and the law says that, it is penalty.
“So once you brought him down in the penalty area, it’s a penalty.” Prosper Narteh Ogum told StarTimes.
Asante Kotoko have now stretched the gap between them and rivals, Hearts to 16 points but eight difference between second placed, Bechem United.
