Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton has explained why he left out captain, Andre Ayew from the 2023 AFCON qualifying game against Angola.
The Nottingham Forest forward did not play a part neither was he on the bench in the first fixture against the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, March 24.
Hughton told the media in a post-match press conference about his decision to exclude the former Swansea City forward.
“This is the choices you have as the head coach.
“We know the quality that Andre Ayew has but we also know the qualities the squad has and this is the reason why they are in the squad and this is the reason why the squad was announced with some who didn’t make the squad.
“So this was always a difficult decision for me so for one player who plays and there is one player who doesn’t.
“So it’s nothing to read into that, he has been and still is a good player but that is my choice today.” Chris Hughton told the press.
Bournemouth striker, Antoine Semenyo, who joined the action on the 69th minute, found the back of the net at added time to send the four time African champion top of group E with 7 points from three games.
Central Africa Republic who defeated Madagascar 3-0 share four points with Angola and the Islanders are seated bottom with just a point.
