Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru expressed his satisfaction after scoring to help Anderlecht win 2-0 against AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday.
In an Instagram post after the game, the Black Stars player shared his thoughts on the win and looked forward to their upcoming game against Genk on Sunday.
“First Half done. All focus on Sunday!! God Alone,” he wrote.
Ashimeru’s goal in the 70th minute was the icing on the cake for Anderlecht. The Ghanaian midfielder’s beautiful shot from the edge of the box beat a helpless Mathew Ryan, wrapping up the win for his team.
The goal was Ashimeru’s first in European competitions and his third in all competitions this season for Anderlecht.
With the 2-0 win, Anderlecht has the advantage heading into the second leg of the quarterfinals to be played on Thursday, April 20, at the AFAS Stadion in Alkmaar.
Ashimeru’s form will be crucial to Anderlecht’s chances of advancing to the next round of the competition.
