Assistant coach of Ghana’s U-23 male national side, Godwin Attram says the technical team will gladly welcome a component of the Black Stars players who are qualified to play in the Africa Championship.
The head coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko has 22 players at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence preparing for the CAF U-23 Championship set for Morocco in June.
Ghana needs to qualify for the Olympic Games after missing out for the 16 years and the inclusion of some key player from the Black Stars will help the team’s quest.
Godwin Attram said: “The technical team led by Ibrahim Tanko, we have discussed these things and we feel that those who are under the age and are capable of helping the country why not?
“They must join the Black Meteors as well, a player like Kamaldeen Sulemana and others, there is a chance for them to join the team, we really hope that they will join and make an impact to support the country.
“The country needs this tournament to qualify for France, it is very important, we haven’t been able to qualify for the tournament, a country like Ghana, and it’s very bad.
“So we hope that calling them to come and join, they will give their hearts out, play very well, listen to the technical team and make something good out of it because it is good to be an Olympian.” Godwin Attram told Radio Gold Sports.
The Meteors last appearance at the Olympics was in the Beijing 2004 in Athens, Greece where they exited at the first stage.
The tournament will serve as a qualification competition for next year’s summer Olympic Games in Paris.
Ghana qualified for the tournament after beating Mozambique and Algeria in the qualifiers.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko is expected to name a strong squad for the competition, which begins on June 23 and ends on July 8, as Ghana eyes a return to the Olympic Games.
The Black Meteors last played at the Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens.
