Ghana got a deserving goalless draw against Madagascar in their penultimate 2023 AFCON qualifier in Antananarivo on Sunday, June 18.
The Black Stars enjoyed a lion share of ball possession right from the blast of the whistle but struggled to break the concentrated Madagascar defence.
Ghana’s first chance came on the 14th minute after left back, Patrick Kpozo located Jordan Ayew in Madagascar’s goal area but the Cryastal Palace attacker failed to memorize best of it.
The home side returned the onslaught two minutes after Ghaan’s incursion yet failed to capitalize and make a goal from the action.
Ghana Captain, Andre Ayew won a midfield battle and located Southampton winger, Kamaldeen Sulemana whose striker went inches away from Madagascar’s goal post on the 19th minute.
Madagascar could have nailed the Ghanaians with a 30th minute surge at the four time AFCON winners penalty area but it ended up fruitless.
Celta Vigo defender, Joseph Aidoo made a very important headed clearance with 32 Minho player to keep the Black Stars in the game.
The first half ended with no sides failing to find the back of the net.
The Black Stars started the second half slowly but a well struck free kick by Thomas Partey was parried to safe by Madagascar goalkeeper on the 56th minute.
The Malagassies tormented Ghana’s goal area but goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi saving the situation for the Black Stars.
The game ended goalless giving Ghana 9 points with the last game against Central Africa Republic in September.
