Roma manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a double swoop on Leicester City for strikers Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka. The Serie A club have reportedly been keeping tabs on the duo for the best part of two years.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LeicestershireLive), the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League to the Championship has created the perfect opportunity for Roma to make their move. The report states that the Europa League runners up have highlighted the forward pair as their priorities in the summer transfer window, describing them as being “circled in red.”
Officials from the Italian club have already travelled to England in pursuit of a deal for West Ham forward Gianluca Scamacca, but negotiations have hit a snag, prompting Roma to consider Iheanacho and Daka as potential alternatives. Mourinho’s side are expected to seek information from Leicester regarding their stance on the matter in the coming hours.
Daka – who scored four Premier League goals and provided four assists last season – and Iheanacho – five goals and five assists – are attracting interest from Turkish clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray respectively, with Premier League clubs Everton and Nottingham Forest also mentioned as potential suitors.
The allure of playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues while also participating in European competitions could prove enticing for the two strikers. However, Leicester are determined to stand firm in any negotiations involving the two forwards during this summer’s transfer window.
