Medeama SC’s CAF Champions League opponent, Remo Stars will begin the title defense of the ValueJet Cup against Kwara United at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Friday when the off season competition kicks off, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
In the draws held on Thursday in Ikenne, Ogun State the two Southwest clubs were placed in the same group and will lock horns for bragging rights in the 2-million valued tournament.
The encounter starts the day as it will be the first match by 9am while Heartland FC will play Sporting Lagos by 2pm. Afterwards, Shooting Stars play Beyond Limits by 4pm as the last match for the day.
The eight teams that will take part in the tournament were grouped into two groups of A and B with defending champions Remo Stars drawn alongside Kwara United, Heartland FC and Sporting Lagos.
In group B, former Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Rivers United were pitched against Abia Warriors, 3SC and Beyond Limit FC who replaced Sunshine Stars after the Akure based club opted out of the competition.
Remo Stars will use the competition as part of rehearsals for their continental encounter against Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC at the Cape Coast Stadium on August 20.
The reverse fixture will be at the Ikene stadium a week after the first leg.
