Former Ghana goalkeeper, Fatawu Dauda has revealed his toughest opposition during his days in the domestic top flight.
Dauda, 38, spent seven seasons with now defunct Obuase AshantiGold after a long spell at Okwawu United, then in the premier league.
The devout Muslim says that, playing against premier league returnees, Hearts of Lions and now second division side, Sekondi Hasaacas then in the top flight, proved tough.
“When I was playing, I think I will go for Hearts of Lions, they are very difficult [to play against] even when they come to your home they give you a game, a very difficult team.
“And then sometimes, Sekondi Hasaacas those times, they are a very difficult team when they come to Obuasi or whenever we meet in Sekondi they are very tough.
“Most of the time when you play the big teams it is not tough not because they are not good but because they have intelligent players and then you know you are going to play a big team.
“Playing the smaller teams you will relax and before you realize they will surprise you.
“So most of the time playing the smaller teams is very difficult than playing the bigger teams.” Fatawu Dauda told Radio Gold Sports.
Fatawu Dauda’s club experience includes spells at South Africa clubs, Orlando Pirates and Chippa United plus a stint at Nigeria side, Enyimba.
Dauda was in the Ghana national team squad for the 2008, 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, and was the first choice keeper for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations edition of the tournament.
He played at 2014 FIFA World Cup and has 26 caps for the Black Stars.
He last played for Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League before calling time on his career.
He is the current goalkeepers trainer of Ghana’s U-20 national male team, the Black Satellites.
