Ghana coach Chris Hughton faces a setback as defender Daniel Amartey is expected to miss the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR) next month.
He becomes the third Ghanaian player to pick up injury ahead of the qualifiers after Majeed Ashimeru and Salis Abdul Samed.
The Black Stars final qualifying match is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 7 as both teams eye qualification to the tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast in January 2024. Ghana need just a point to secure a spot at in the tournament.
Unfortunately for Hughton, Amartey’s availability for the game has taken a nosedive after picking up an injury a knock at training.
The former Leicester City player is expected to be on the sidelines for two weeks, eight days to the crucial game against CAR.
Meanwhile, the experienced defender will not be available for Besiktas when they take on Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of the Europa Conference. Besiktas will go into the game with the advantage following a 3-2 away win in Ukraine.
Amartey is expected to be ready after the international break.
