Ghana champions Medeama SC failed to take control of Group D of the CAF Champions League following their 1-1 draw with Young Africans on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
If the Mauve and Yellows had won the game, they would have been top of the group after three rounds of games, but are now still third with four points.
Egypt’s Al Ahly and CR Belouizdad also played out a goalless draw in the other group game.
The result means Al Ahly are top of the group with 5 points while Belouizdad are second with four points, the same as Medeama.
Medeama took the lead in the 26th minute when Jonathan Sowah converted a penalty earned by Derrick Fourdjour.
However, Young Africans responded with a goal of their own in the 34th minute, as Pacome Peodoh Zouzoua capitalized on defensive lapses to level the score.
Despite several close calls in the second half, including a disallowed goal for offside and a crucial save by Felix Kyei, neither team could break the deadlock.
The match concluded with a 1-1 draw, leaving both Medeama SC and Young Africans with a point each.
Medeama SC will now face Young Africans in the reverse fixture at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania for their fourth group match in the upcoming weekend.
